Uganda Gorilla Trekking — Bwindi & Mgahinga (min. 7 nights)

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Buzeyi, Cyanika, Kisoro, Western Region, Uganda

About this experience

Trek through ancient rainforest in search of the last remaining mountain gorillas. In Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks, ranger-guided hikes lead small groups to habituated families where you’ll quietly observe these gentle giants—typically for one magical hour. Expect steep, muddy trails, cool mist, birdsong, and an unforgettable, respectful wildlife encounter.

Why this experience

  • Bucket-list wildlife: meet mountain gorillas in their natural habitat with expert rangers.
  • Two iconic forests: Bwindi’s tangled hills and Mgahinga’s volcano slopes.
  • Conservation in action: your permit directly supports protection and local communities.

Suggested 7-night flow

  1. Arrival (Entebbe/Kampala) — overnight to rest.
  2. Road/flight to the southwest — lodge near Bwindi trailhead.
  3. Gorilla trek #1 — safety briefing, forest hike, one hour with a gorilla family.
  4. Recovery day or add-on — community walk, birding, or golden monkey trek (Mgahinga).
  5. Gorilla trek #2 — a second permit maximizes chances and photos.
  6. Scenic unwind — Lake Bunyonyi or Queen Elizabeth NP (optional game drive/boat).
  7. Return to Entebbe — evening at leisure; depart next day.

Good to know

  • Permits are limited and required for each trek; groups are small by design.
  • One-hour viewing rule protects the gorillas’ health and behavior.
  • Best seasons: generally June–Sep and Dec–Feb for firmer trails (it can rain anytime).
  • Treks range from easy to strenuous depending on where your assigned family is that day.
