Road to Tsavo – 2 Nights in Tsavo East

Tsavo, Kibwezi East, Makueni, Kenya

About this experience

Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya’s largest protected areas—wild, open and authentic. Vast red-earth plains dotted with baobabs, seasonal rivers and big skies set the stage for classic safaris, with dust-tinted elephant herds as the park’s timeless emblem.

Film lovers will recognize Tsavo from The Ghost and the Darkness (1996), inspired by the true story of the 1898 “man-eaters of Tsavo” during construction of the railway bridge—an iconic, if dramatic, chapter in East African history.

Itinerary at a glance

  1. Day 1 — Coast → Tsavo East
Morning road transfer to the park. Check in at Sentrim Tsavo East, lunch, then an afternoon game drive until sunset. Dinner & overnight at the lodge.
  2. Day 2 — Full day in Tsavo East
Sunrise and late-afternoon safaris (or one extended drive) across endless savannahs, seasonal rivers and waterholes where lions, giraffes, buffalo and antelope gather. Dinner & overnight.
  3. Day 3 — Tsavo East → Coast
Final morning game drive while exiting the park. On the way back, optional lunch stop at Camp Gedeng near the Sabaki River (grilled chicken & fries are a house favorite) and a short riverbank stroll to look for hippos. Afternoon arrival at Vinrosa House.

Why you’ll love it

  • Red-dust elephants and big-game country with fewer crowds.
  • Aruba Dam area and other water points that attract wildlife in numbers.
  • Expansive light & horizons—beautiful for photography, especially at golden hour.

Good to know

Roads are mostly laterite/dirt; the last daylight hour often brings gorgeous golden light.
Game viewing varies with season and recent rains; water sources concentrate wildlife in drier months.
